What is a Grab Lorry?

If you don’t know, a grab lorry is like a giant skip-truck hybrid, with an arm that does the hard work so you don’t have to. The kinds of materials they best work for include mixed general waste, green waste, muck, hardcore, wood and more.

Not only very useful for taking away used materials from commercial sites or private properties, grab lorry hire is also ideal for concrete and tarmac, as haulage vehicles to transport materials, and to lift pallets via the sling option. At Acorn, we have a choice of recycled and primary aggregates, including quality screened topsoil, and we can deliver these to you in St Neots and the surrounds—in bulk or in smaller sizes.

The grab lorry’s hydraulic arm loads materials into the container bed at the back. The waste is then driven safely back to our Bedfordshire base in a single trip.

Each of our grab lorries is modern and reliable. Our friendly drivers are skilled, experienced and fully trained to operate the vehicles.

We can provide grab lorry hire during both day and night, for whatever your requirements. Additionally, we can provide emergency call-outs if disaster strikes.

Why are they suitable for you?

Firstly, grab lorries have large capacities, meaning there’s much greater space in them for materials. All in our range hold 16 tonnes, the approximate equivalent as two of our 8yd skips.

Secondly, grab lorries save you time and energy. For example, rather than multiple trips to and from a skip with a wheelbarrow, the ‘grab’ aspect does all the necessary back and forth. Speeding up the process of waste removal, your site clearance and/or construction project can continue to the next step more quickly and more efficiently.

Thirdly, St Neots has many locations unsuitable for human access. Fewer limitations apply to heavy machinery such as grab lorries, making them a very effective option. For example, by going over not around, the grab function can reach waste from metres away, and from difficult positions.

Finally, a grab lorry can leave once it’s full. You won’t need to keep it on your drive, your street, or at your site until the collection date. The ability to collect waste from one place and deliver to another allows us to maximise the workload too.

We can accept hardcore, wood, soil, general waste, green waste and also deliver primary and recycled aggregates. POA

The lorry needs to be able to access the waste or deliver the material from either side of the vehicle. It cannot unload from the rear.

The grab lorry can get to more difficult places and spaces due to the arm and grab buckets ability to reach out over fences and obstacles.
